U11 and U13 Young Felstedian Tennis Championships

Well done to all the players of the U11 and U13 Finals. Great weather and some vocal crowd support by the Thomas' made it a great afternoon.

In the U11 Boys’ final the boys entered a Championship tie break at one set all. Despite Harvey Sullivan and Oliver Butler having 6 match points, leading 9-4, some persistent play from Owen Thomas and Harry Nichols eventually saw then triumph 13-11. The overall score being 2-4, 4-1, 13-11.

In the U11 Girls’ event, some excellent rallies and great competitive play saw a great game that was not entirely reflected in the score with Lucy Bailes and Amber Aitken beating Molly Bones and Izzy Broom 4-0, 5-3.

In the U13 competition, excellent tennis was played by both the girls and the boys. In the Girl’s tournament, Izzy Minks and Georgina Stevens taking the first set with a comfortable 4-1 score. However, the second set saw a great comeback from Laura Winter and Emily Butler, taking it 4-2. In the deciding Championship tie break, the dominance of Izzy with some great forehands and Georgina's consistency, saw them take a 9-4 lead. Laura and Emily dug in and saved 3 match points before eventually losing 10-7. Minks and Stevens winning 4-1, 2-4, 10-7.

The Boys’ event saw James Benbrook and Max Bailes play Matthew Morley-Jacob and Matthew Gilham. With two of the elite boys playing on opposite sides, it was always going to be a close game. The first set went to a tie-break with the Matthew's winning and taking the set 5-4. The second set saw James and Max take a 2-0 lead but they could not see the set out, allowing the two Matthews to eventually come back and win it 4-2, so winning 5-4, 4-2.

Well done to everyone who played, once again, the tournament is only as good as the players who enter and play. Thanks to you all and hopefully you will get the tennis bug and join clubs and enjoy what is a great sport for the rest of your lives!
